Back-to-back supercells hit the Phoenix metro on Tuesday night, October 20, and again on Wednesday afternoon, October 21, 2026. The first storm crossed the East Valley around 10 PM, dropping hail from Chandler and Gilbert into Mesa, where a pile of 1 to 2 inch stones was photographed.

The Wednesday storm did the most damage. Between about 3:25 and 3:45 PM, hail and 60 mph winds moved through Peoria, Glendale, Deer Valley and north Phoenix. Windows were shattered, hail punched through home siding, trees came down, and nearly every car in one Metrocenter parking lot was damaged.

Hail this size can crack tile, bruise shingles, split flat-roof membranes and dent metal, and much of that damage can't be seen from the ground. Most policies set a deadline for reporting storm damage, so get the roof looked at soon.

Damage reported

  • Shattered windows and windshields at an apartment complex near 19th and Peoria avenues
  • Hail through windows and siding of homes in north Phoenix
  • Nearly every car in a Metrocenter parking lot damaged, many towed
  • A tree down onto an apartment building near 28th and Peoria avenues
  • Large trees onto cars and a carport at a Mesa apartment complex
